As a journalist and food and drink writer my work has taken me to some incredible places (Istanbul, Milos, Norway, Beirut, Los Angeles, the Bahamas and Kenya) and I've met fascinating characters along the way - from gay men who have adopted babies and women who have escaped violent marriages, to Spice Girls, Back Street Boys and chefs like Jamie OIiver and Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall. I'm extremely lucky to have a job that is never dull, always challenging and frequently very unexpected indeed.

 

 

As well as collecting stories, I'm a magpie for the recipes I find on my travels. I love researching the way culture is expressed through food and drink. My latest book on the subject is a collection of recipes from Lisbon; my previous two cookbooks were about the Greek islands and food in Istanbul.
